How to Turn Off Ford MyKey

Ford Key Fobs on Seat Keeping drivers safe around Normal is made easier with Ford MyKey, as it sets parameters for additional drivers. Despite its clear advantages, there may come a point when you need to know how to turn off Ford MyKey, for example, if you need to exchange keys or you’re planning to sell your car. Follow this step-by-step guide from Sam Leman Ford whenever you need to initiate a Ford MyKey disable.

Ford MyKey Disable Steps

In order to begin the Ford MyKey disable process, you will need to start your Ford model with the admin key or admin key fob. This is so that you can access the necessary menus on your touchscreen. Then follow these steps to return any programmed MyKeys to their original status:

  1. Wait for your onboard computer and screen to power up after you start your car with the admin key.
  2. Go to the main menu, navigate to “Settings,” and press “OK.”
  3. Scroll to the option that says “MyKey,” followed by the option that says “Clear MyKey.”
  4. Press and hold “OK” until the following message appears on the screen: “All MyKeys Cleared.”

What is Ford MyKey?

Similar to other Ford technologies, such as Ford SYNC®, FordPass, and Ford Remote Start, the Ford MyKey promises peace of mind and convenience as you and others drive around Decatur. Here’s how it works:

  • One driver can use Ford MyKey to program restrictions for all other keys used to drive your Ford.
  • It serves as a means of promoting good driving behaviors among teens and other less experienced drivers.
  • Set parameters such as driver’s speed limits, ensuring proper seat belt usage for front-seat passengers, distractions from entertainment features, and more.
  • Drivers who start the vehicle with a programmed MyKey, will be restricted by the selected parameters and be required to use any Ford safety features installed.

Ford MyKey was made standard in 2010, and while initially targeted toward parents looking to keep an extra eye on kids when they were handed the keys to the Taurus or Explorer, it has a range of other benefits as well. It’s particularly handy when you need to hand off keys to a valet.

Program Keys with MyKey

Programming your Ford MyKey is as simple as disabling it. Resetting Ford MyKey with only one key goes the same way:

  1. Insert the key you wish to program into the ignition. If your Ford has push-button start, then you must insert the key into the backup slot.
  2. Access the main menu and go to “Settings.”
  3. Select “MyKey, followed by “Create MyKey.”
  4. Press “OK” to register the key as a MyKey, which restricts it to your set parameters every time the vehicle starts with the key.
  5. Adjust restriction settings as you wish under the “MyKey” menu, and select the features you would like to change.
