How to Use Ford Remote Start

Trying to figure out how to use Ford Remote Start? This guide from Sam Leman Ford will help you learn all about how to access the remote start features that are available on many new Ford vehicles here at our dealership in Bloomington. You will be pleasantly surprised at just how easy it is to use Ford remote access and FordPass.

Ford Remote Start How-Tos

To begin using your Ford Remote Access just have your Ford key fob in hand and follow these steps:

Starting Your Ford Vehicle

  • Press the lock button on the key fob to lock the doors 
  • Press the remote start button twice 
  • Exterior lamps with flash twice 
  • Horn will sound if the command failed 

Turning the Vehicle Off 

  • After remote starting, press the button once 
  • Exterior lamps will turn off 

Is your Ford model equipped with the Memory Feature? If so, you can utilize it to adjust your seating, mirror, and steering column positions whenever the remote start is activated. Note that these positions must be pre-set.

What is FordPass? 

If your vehicle is equipped with Ford SYNC Connect, you can use the FordPass system to control it remotely wherever you are in the Normal area. There are no yearly subscription fees associated with SYNC Connect, so you can simply download it from the App Store or Google Play in order to control the following:

  • Start and stop remotely 
  • Lock and unlock remotely 
  • Schedule a start 
  • Check gas and fluid levels

Ford Remote Access Won’t Work? 

While learning how to use Ford Remote Start is simple, you may come across instances when it won’t work. If you find that your key fob is not responding, one of the following may be the cause: 

  • Ignition is on
  • Triggered alarm 
  • Disabled remote stop/start system 
  • Open hood 
  • Transmission is in park (P)
  • Low vehicle battery 
  • “Service engine soon” light is illuminated
