How to Reset Tire Pressure Light

TPMS Light On? Reset Your Tire Pressure Light
After properly inflating your tires, the tire pressure light should reset on its own. If the light stays on, you can try a few methods to reset the tire pressure light:
- Drive at 50 mph or above for at least 10 minutes. This will help your sensor reset.
- When the vehicle is off, turn the key to the “On” position, but don’t start the car. Hold down the TPMS reset button until the light blinks three times, then let go. Start the car and give the vehicle about 20 minutes for the sensor to reset. Generally, you’ll find the reset button under the steering wheel. If you can’t quickly locate it, check your owner’s manual.
- Try inflating each tire 3 PSI over the recommended amount, then deflate them completely. You’ll want to do this with the spare tire too, since it may have its own sensor. Once each tire is flat, inflate them to the proper air pressure.
- Keep the vehicle off and disconnect the positive battery cable with a wrench. Turn the car on and honk the horn for roughly 3 seconds. This will discharge any stored energy in the vehicle. Reconnect the battery.

Your TPMS system often relies on a battery, so a flashing tire pressure sensor light is usually indicative of a dying battery. While dead batteries are nothing to stress over, you’ll want to have that fixed up right away.
